Blue Mountains

While we were in New South Wales we spent a day in the Blue Mountains.  Australia has some amazing sights.  Although the mountains are not extreemly high in terms of elevation, around 1,000 to 1,200 meters (about the same elevation of the highest points in Pennsylvania) the vistas and outlooks are spectacular.  There are sheer rock clifs, waterfalls, beautiful rock formations and an ancient temperate rain forest complete with vines and fern trees.  Quite a wonderful experience and as with most of Australia, it is different than anything you have experienced before.

Wentworth Falls

A Banksia tree.  It spreads it's seeds when there is a bush fire and these pods are burned releasing the seeds.

This formation is the 3 sisters - complete with an aboriginal legond.

An original coal mine in the rain forest

G on flat rock look out.  the drop off right behind him is as big as it appears.  Makes your knees weak.

We also saw an aboriginal rock engraving but the pictures don't show up very well here. You will have to imagine, it was an engraving of a Kangaroo with a spear in it.
